I really came on the right trip. it is truly a privilege. even if i am sacrificing my music east and west, it’s really worth it.
the things i’m seeing and hearing, should truly be written in a book and be an inspiration to many people out there. really. maybe they have a few more chapters to write, and the rest is about succession planning.
but even as i am thinking about this, he made that comment. the key is to never have people write about you. the key is not to get big headed. see the right attitude these people have? and they are people who have truly conquered the world, or at least this part of it. and hearing how they did it, first hand, believe me, blew my mind away.
they credited a lot on luck. the right time,t he right people. to me it’s just a lot of good attitude and a lot of God being involved. they don’t know that of course.
and they did so many thins right, with the rgiht mindset.
i can’t go to too many details but just one idea we talked about: charity.
we always talk about helping people. but how do we do it right? the world power is in business and money, at least this is how society defined it to be. and when we decide to do charity work, we need to have the right methods. otherwise, it’s all wrong and wasted.
it’s always about changing lives right. not about giving money. we change lives when their improved lives are sustainable. one example is when people build schools or library. and after that they dont change the books forever! so what if there is reader’s digest available to students in china and indonesia? one year later it’s the same book available. or are we one of those that give an amount to a school, put our name there and never look at it again?
in kalimantan here, even though it’s a business, people’s lives are being changed. when people work for the plantations, we build housing. we build mosques and churches. we give them jobs. their family then moves here and starts bakeries, supermarkets. imagine a whole town being built up. property prices jumping at alarming rate. all because one company invests. this is the way to chnage lives. the company or the plantation may pass. but the whole town will forever be built up.
when we change lives, we need to be able to attract people to contribute without feeling they are contributing (like people investing in the place when we make it a good place). and that’s really what i meant by RIDING on business to do charity. amazing.
another village in china. people tried to give moeny to improve their standard of living. give them cattles, and cattle-feed consistently to build the business. but not working!! one look and we know, it’s a hilly terrain there. it costs a bomb to transport those feeds. and they need constant input of money to keep their business running. they saw an opportunity and realized the place is suitable for planting kiwi and oranges. after investing an amount to breed good seeds, distribute, train them, invest in them, they now own their mini plantations. marketers all over the worlds came and start buying from them, building up their marketing chain all over china or glabally.
isn’t this the way we should chnage the world?
as christians we do not always have to feel limited. quoting pastor tan, all of us have the ability to change the world. to do good. it’s really not about the thing we do, but the idea behind it.
believe me, if i have a good idea but no money today and i write to bill gates. he’ll invest in me.
it’s just so amazing. so this trip really renewed my mind. i want to do things right for my life too.
on another note, i don’t know why wilmar’s trading at the price now. from what i’m seeing around me, they built an amazng business with competitive/comparitive advantage in lots lots lots of areas compared to their competitors.
